LegalShield is an active legal service available to anyone in the United States and Canada. The corporation was started in Ada, Oklahoma, on August 8th, 1972. The CEO Jeff Bell, the company’s marketing leader, previously worked at Ford Motors, Microsoft, and NBC Universal. The company was originally called Sportsmen Motor Club (1972-1976). Later, the name changed to Prepaid Legal Services Inc (1976-2011). As the company expanded in 2011, it became known as LegalShield (2011 to present).
LegalShield uses a business marketing platform and maintains a diverse mix of attorneys who work with clients. The company has small business platforms and family legal plans which also cover individuals. During its almost fifty-year history, it’s managed to stay affordable for any price range.
The Family Plan costs $24.95 a month and has a trial defense for court, document review, Will preparation, and emergency assistance. Members can cancel at any time free of charge. Also offered on the website are Legal Zoom, RocketLawyer, and Avvo. When you go to checkout you can see each plan. A small business plan starts at $39 a month for business owners. The commercial driver plan costs $32.95 a month and the identity theft plan is $12.95 a month.
A few more advantages of LegalShield are the trial defense supplement and the home business plan. Also, there’s IRS tax support, name change information, auto coverage, and document service. Some clients ask for additional discounted hourly rates. The areas of law covered by LegalShield include immigration, employment, criminal, consumer, civil, collection, landlord and tenant, personal injury, real estate, and traffic.
LegalShield was featured in Forbes, the Hill, Yahoo Finance, and Law360. One of the early founders Harland Stonecipher helped start the company to save legal costs. A book he wrote available on Amazon is called The PrePaid Legal Story and details the beginning of the company.
