About Twitter

Twitter is a social networking website. It was founded in 2006 by founders, Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams. The headquarters are located in San Francisco, California, but there are over 20 offices across the world. The Executive Chairman is Omid R. Kordestani. Jack Dorsey is the CEO of Twitter. Twitter is a publicly traded company and is a billion-dollar company. There are over 300 million Twitter users. Twitter is a free social media website. Signing up on the website only takes about five minutes. You will be required to enter basic details, such as your name, email address or phone number, and desired username. You will then be able to edit your profile with your profile picture and a brief biography. Unlike most social media websites, you do not have “friends” on Twitter, but people can “follow” you and you can do the same with them. When you follow someone, you are able to see their content, which is what Twitter calls “tweets”. Tweets are basically things that are on your mind that you want to post about. Originally, the tweet limit was 140 characters, but the limit was raised to 280 characters. According to Pear Analytics, over 40% of tweets are pointless babble, 37.6% of tweets are conversational, 8.7% of tweets are pass-along value, 5.9% of tweets are self-promotion, 3.8% of tweets are spam, and 3.6% of tweets are news. Twitter also has something called “Trending Topics”, which are commonly discussed topics on Twitter. You can upload photos and videos on Twitter. You can also use GIFs in your tweets. Businesses are also allowed to purchase advertising on Twitter, enabling their brand to be shown on users’ timelines.
